Ecological drivers of altered bird migration in a changing climate

Hakemuksen tiivistelmä

In my thesis, I aim to unravel unsolved puzzles regarding the ecological pressures and population dynamics of responses to climate change in migration. The main factors i look at is migration phenology and range shifts, but also whether or not individuals migrate at all (partial migration). In addition to weather and climate effects, I implement important anthropogenic effects like urbanity – which is often forgotten in this context. Some of my research may potentially be of high influence in the field, revisiting long-held beliefs with new striking results. I have the strongest focus on Nordic birds as a model system, but the results may have broader implications – also across animal groups.

This grant funded the 12 last months of my doctoral thesis "Avian responses in a changing climate", the grant period ending upon thesis submission. The kone grant provided important resources to finalize three chapters and write the summary of my thesis.
