Ice Chess

Ice Chess explores the Arctic crisis and the potential implications of emerging shipping routes on geopolitical powers, indigenous peoples, and the Global South through the lens of a chess game. The chessboard will be a map combining our knowledge of indigenous lands, Arctic shipping routes, etc., while the pieces will be made of ice. Inside the ice are toy soldiers that represent the countries that have an economic stake on the Arctic, pawns that represent countries that are going to bear the worst effects of a melting Arctic, and figures on the side that represent other geographically affected concerned peoples.
