Embodying AI: Advancing Art & AI Interactions For Future-ready Performing Arts

Hakemuksen tiivistelmä

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming societies at multiple levels, reshaping how knowledge, culture, and art are produced, shared and experienced. The performing arts, rooted in embodied practices and shared human presence with the deep entwinement with human embodiment and creative expression, also stands in the middle of this upheaval with post-chatGPT content producers, disembodied artificial physicality and digitally entangled bodies. The project explores how AI as a condition and premise alters embodied artistic practices, performer training, and the very ontology of the human body in performance. This deep cultural shift demands new forms of knowledge, methodologies, and pedagogies to be shared with artists and art-educators to develop truly future-ready embodied AI skills. The urgency stems from a recognition that artistic embodied practice has only begun to scratch the surface of what embodied collaboration with AI might mean. By focusing on embodied performative AI-ability-skills, the project imagines new repertoires of performing body/ies and interactions that go beyond tool use toward a more ontological shift in embodiment itself. The project advances Art&AI interactions by incorporating diverse multi-disciplinary artistic and scientific expertise in the working packages focusing on kinesthetic-linguistic knowledge production through diverse outputs. The project opens new research fields and conceptualize new critical perceptual-experiential embodied AI skills for the artistic and educational sector within performing arts and AI research. The research process creates a comprehensive framework, from artistic practice to philosophy, ethics, ecological thinking, and pedagogy, and from actual artistic creation to virtual policy impact.
