As active filmmakers we have identified common needs revolving around the following questions – in our precarious state, how can we have our works made preserving our autonomy and agency? How do we create a supportive infrastructure around us where learning is shared, intensified and everyone involved benefits from it? How can this shared environment contribute to facilitating more transparency and softer practices in the film industry? The “burning-out” pace inherent in the filmmaking field - do we have to subject ourselves to it if we are to achieve our goals? How can we mindfully choose our pace without being afraid for our careers taking a damage from “slowing down”? In aiming to find the answers to those questions, rather than trying to tackle the industry status quo as lone individuals, we believe in leaning towards and onto each other to consolidate our efforts and practices into a “guerilla - flexible - playful - daring - feminist - contemplative - hands on - things done in house” collective whose needs and ways of fulfilling them have no middlemen in between. The grant would be used to establish and fuel the collective's artistic activity and develop its sustainable operational model. The collective's work will encompass structured learning via workshops and practice/exercises, structured peer support for each individual's project, sharing the knowledge with other communities via event organizing, supporting each other in forming new collaborative relations. Our hope for the collective is to become an innovative center of gravity for resources and knowledge that will allow its members to move and develop within it, while developing the collective itself and finding new ways to be filmmakers. Loppuraportin tiivistelmä Film Tonight! is a collective of four female filmmakers united by a shared passion for cinema, feminist values, a common school history, and an immigrant background. Over the grant period, Film Tonight! has evolved from an idea into a functioning collective with a strong, supportive structure, enabling collaborative decision-making and shared responsibility—crucial for maintaining our autonomy and agency as filmmakers. We established a structured peer support system where each member’s project received focused attention and collaborative input, fostering individual visions. This environment of shared learning has improved our work quality, strengthened bonds, and created space for bold ideas. Through regular meetings, feedback sessions, and brainstorming, we refined each other's ideas, solved creative challenges, and advanced our projects. The collective has been instrumental in our personal and professional growth, serving as a catalyst for career advancement. Financial independence allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in artistic research, development, and project execution, leading to significant career milestones. We've celebrated these achievements collectively, reinforcing our sense of shared success and mutual support. Our collective established local and international collaborations with individuals and institutions in arts and cinema. Our space in Kallio has become a hub for community building, hosting events that enrich communal life. Through these gatherings, we’ve created opportunities for cultural exchange, joy, and connection, making us a vital part of the local creative ecosystem. Our collective and individual values have guided our growth as filmmakers. The grant period has been a time of significant skill-building and connection. We are ready and excited to continue building on this momentum as a collective with a far-reaching vision for the future. We aim to thrive, expand, and most importantly—make more films!
