“Boy Crazy” is a short horror film that combines the genre of found footage and animation to explore themes of sexuality, desire and heternormative culture during adolescence. Using frame by frame animation and over 200 hours of audiovisual material from the director’s personal life, this film tells the story of a Teenager, who in the midst of hitting puberty, is possessed by a Demon that uses her body to have an orgasm. Divided into three acts —Innocence, Intimacy and The Little Dead—, “Boy Crazy” aims to interrogate how the male gaze influences how young women build their sexual identity, using animation to represent the Demon, the footage to represent the Teenage experience and the video editing to represent how an external perspective can sometimes manipulate reality.
