Accepting the residency and arriving at the Saari Residence

Residency applicants who have received a positive decision must contact the Saari Residence office by 31 July at the latest to notify us of acceptance of your residency. We will get back to you after the deadline. You may inform us whether you accept the place or not via the online grant service (by sending a message to the residency and communications coordinator) or email (saari@koneensaatio.fi).

ARRIVING AT THE SAARI RESIDENCE

Please notify the Saari Residence office of your arrival time in good time. Please let us know how you plan to travel (bus, car etc.).

You will also receive more detailed information about your forthcoming residency period via email.

Make sure to check your inbox carefully, as our emails are sometimes filtered as spam or promotional material, such as in Gmail.

Please note that the Saari Residence staff does not live in the manor and your check-in time is during weekdays between 12 and 16.30 (4.30 p.m.).

Residents are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. If you arrive from outside Schengen states, you will need a visa to visit Finland. Please read more at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ webpage.

We encourage our residents to take their time travelling to Saari (i.e., via slow travel), if possible, by train, bus or boat, rather than airplane

The Saari Residence is accessible by bus, and the nearest stop is situated two kilometres from the Residence.

TRAVELLING TO THE SAARI RESIDENCE

If you are arriving by BUS, nearest bigger town Turku is well served by bus and train connections to Helsinki. The journey typically takes around two hours. Several buses also run daily between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and Turku. Local buses from Turku bus station will take you to within two kilometres of the Residence. The bus timetables can be found from www.matkahuolto.fi/en.

Insert the point of departure (from) and point of arrival: Lauttanpää, Kustavintie (Mynämäki). If you are getting only a few options selecting a trip from Helsinki to Lauttanpää, please choose first Helsinki–Turku and then Turku–Lauttanpää.

All buses to Uusikaupunki and Kustavi stop next to the Pyheen Village Shop in Mietoinen, Mynämäki (indicated as Lauttanpää on the Matkahuolto timetable).

You do not need to purchase the ticket in advance. Also, the buses have a free WI-FI connection.

Please note: do not search for the timetable for the trip to Mynämäki since the buses going to the centre of Mynämäki take the road 8 in the direction of Rauma, which would take you more than 10 kilometres from the manor. We can pick you up at the nearest Lauttanpää stop along Kustavintie to ensure a smooth journey.

We can also help you to find the best bus connections to Saari. Do not hesitate to ask!

If you are arriving by TRAIN, you can use trains from Helsinki to Turku, but from Turku to the Residence, you need to take a bus. Also, there is major construction work at the central station in Turku, and the last stop is Kupittaa which is 2,5 km from the bus station. We recommend using the bus.

If you are DRIVING, driving instructions are provided in our email.

If you are arriving by AIR, the Saari Residence is situated about 30 kilometres North-West of the Turku Airport. Still, usually, it is easier and more sustainable to fly to Helsinki Airport and then take a bus from the airport to Turku and the Saari Residence (unless there is a direct flight to Turku).

LOW-EMISSION TRAVEL

At Saari Residence, we encourage residents to practice ecological low-emission travel whenever possible. It means travelling by train, bus, or boat instead of aeroplane or fossil fuel car

When preparing for your travel, you may use online services like EcoPassenger to compare the energy consumption, CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts of planes, cars and trains. We recommend the Deutsche Bahn webpage when planning train journeys in Europe. Also, websites like Rome2Rio and The Man in seat 61 have many tips. If you use a ferry from Stockholm to Turku, we endorse choosing an overnight ferry, Viking Line Grace or Viking Line Glory, that uses liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its fuel. You can read more about slow travel on our website. If you need help, please do not hesitate to ask. Also, remember to update your itinerary and send it to the residency and communications coordinator before making the payment request.

INSURANCE

Please make sure that your insurance is valid during your stay at the Saari Residence. Please submit your certificate of insurance to the Saari Residence office well before your arrival.
