Thematic grant calls are evaluated separately from the general grant call. Kone Foundation’s current funding programme is called “Is Democracy Eroding?”. The programme aims to increase our collective understanding of democracy and social justice and to bring new perspectives to common notions of democracy. The next thematic funding call of the programme “Is Democracy Eroding?” will be organised in 2024 in conjunction with the annual grant call. Due to the warming of the climate, the geopolitical significance of the northern regions has changed, which has caused an economic race to the Arctic. The relations between Russia and the West have become tense and polarised, and migrations and refugee situations have brought new neighbours to the Finnish society.
