Kone Foundation seeks bold initiatives again this autumn

Kone Foundation’s grant application process starts soon after the summer holiday season has ended, taking place from the 1st to the 15th of September. In addition to the general grant call, we will call applications for the third thematic call in The changing “neighbournesses” of Finland programme, Our vital neighbours. For the first time, applications are also accepted for residence at the Lauttasaari Manor, intended for international art and research professionals.

Kone Foundation awards grants for research, art and projects combining the two. In the selection process, emphasis will be placed on initiatives that are multidisciplinary, diverse, and challenging their topic from a new, critical perspective. We encourage applicants to engage in diversified projects that combine art and research as well as collaboration between journalists and researchers.

In addition to the general grant application process, the Foundation will organise the third thematic call in The changing “neighbournesses” of Finland programme, Our vital neighbours, which expands the concept of neighbours to include non-human living creatures as well as human and social relationships. The thematic call examines humans’ relationship with the diverse group of other organisms and animals around us on the level of individuals, communities, organisations, states and the global world.

The thematic call promotes cooperation between fields of ecology, social sciences and humanities. The funded projects must be based on scientific research but they can involve civil society members and journalists. We encourage researchers and artists for collaboration.

The Red Villa located in the courtyard of the newly renovated Lauttasaari Manor includes a residence for artists and researchers. Finnish organisations in the fields of arts and research, who want to invite a foreign art or research expert to Finland for a cooperation project, are welcome to apply for the residency. The first residence application process will take place in conjunction with the general application process in September.

The purpose of the residency activities at the Lauttasaari Manor is to create profound collaboration between local and international art and research professionals. The residency promotes professionals’ working, networking and international collaboration by making it possible for foreign art and research experts to live and work in Finland.

The residency period ranges from one to four months. The first residency period will begin in April 2019. The residency includes an apartment and a monthly grant. The application should include the applicant’s wish for the duration and dates of the residency.
