Shipbuilding industry exhibition at the Hippolyte

The fourth collaborative exhibition between Hippolyte and Saari Residence will be exhibited at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, Helsinki in October 2016. This year, the exhibition features the work of Saari alumni Nadija Mustapić and Toni Meštrović.

The exhibition of two Saari alumni, media artists Nadija Mustapić and Toni Meštrović, opened at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte on Thursday, 6 October 2016. The video installation exhibition The Quotas of Pride revolves around changes in the shipbuilding industries of Finland and Croatia. The five-channel work Moment of Silence was created at shipyards in Split and Rijeka. Nadija Mustapić’s piece, Do I Love My Job?, partly created in the Saari Residence, is exhibited in the Hippolyte Studio. It explores work at a shipyard through the eyes of two female welders.

The exhibition was opened by Vice President of the Association of Photographic Artists, Jaakko Koskentola.  The artists were also naturally there, along with Minna Herrala from Mynämäki, who worked as a welder at the Meyer dockyards in Turku and appears in Mustapić’s piece. “I love my work,” Herrala told the public, answering the question asked by the title of the work.

The exhibition is a part of the ongoing collaboration between the Saari Residence and Photographic Gallery Hippolyte. Thanks to this partnership, the international residents of the Saari Residence can now present their work to the Finnish public for the fourth time. Previous exhibitions have featured the art of London-based Oreet Ashrey and the Canadian artist Bill Burns, among others. The current exhibition, The Quotas of Pride, will be open until 23 October.
