“Art makes it possible to imagine how society could be”

In its #Zartivism project, the Baltic Circle contemporary theatre festival brings together art, young people and social change. “Art makes it possible to imagine how society could be,” says Satu Herrala, the new artistic director of the festival. The project gives young people full artistic freedom, challenging the notion of Generation Z as passive individualists. The festival invites artists to work with young people.

Baltic Circle organises the festival in partnership with the NGO Oranssi.

Artist and curator Peter Weibel has called artistic activism – also known as artivism – the first new art form of the 21st century.
