Trans Atlantic Dialogue

This summer the international artist collective Videokaffe was invited to Kone Foundation’s Saari Residence in Finland. During the two weeks the Videokaffe members worked together to create a work called Transatlantic Dialog to be exhibited at the Wassaic Project Festival at the completion of their residency.

The piece features two kinetic sculptures crafted to communicate and respond to each other for their performance via computer vision and the Internet. The movement of the fire in Finland affects motion of the mechanical bird-like sculpture in Wassaic. The bird’s movement is then motion tracked and creates a live sound composition in the Wassaic exhibition space and when the bird reaches a stasis it triggers a bellow attached to the Finland sculpture to blow wind to the fire in Finland. Taken as a whole the work creates a transatlantic circuit of reciprocal movement and sound.
