Residency artists and researchers Sculpture, installation art Paavo Halonen Visual artist I came to the Saari Residence with preliminary notes on the sculptures I planned to produce, sheafs of paper, ink, and rowan branches. What unified this jumble of things was my central theme, birds. And what was I greeted with on my arrival but the migratory song of whooper swans! One of the main aims during my time at Saari was to produce works for two exhibitions: in autumn 2010 for a private exhibition at Kluuvi Gallery in Helsinki, and for a joint exhibition in St. Petersburg in February 2010. And having got off to such a pleasant start, things went well!
