Residency artists and researchers Animation Lea Vidakovic MA of audiovisual arts Multimedia artist, born in Serbia (1983), working mainly in the field of art installation and puppet animation. Holds an MA of audiovisual arts from the Royal Academy of Arts KASK, Belgium, an MA in graphic art/painting from the Academy of Arts in Zagreb, Croatia, and a BA of animation from HVO, Norway. Member of Association of Artists from Vojvodina (SULUV) and Association of Croatian Artists (HDLU). ‘During the residency I will work on my new project Family portrait – a dark yet humorous social observation inspired by Daisaku Ikeda’s quote: Every family has its own set of circumstances and problems that only its members can fully understand… This project is going to be a synchronised multiscreen installation done in the technique of puppet animation. It will consist of 9 different stories – each presented on separate screen, simultaneously. Eight stories will represent a single family member, or a smaller group, and the 9th story, which is central, will serve as a frame where all the family members will eventually gather to pose in front of the photographer who tends to capture their family portrait. Besides resembling similar visual qualities, the stories will have a subtle connection – where an action from one story will trigger actions in others. The rooms presented on separate screens, where the actions would take place, would be in a way connected, which would allow characters to interact going in and out of each other’s spaces, gathering together at the central screen. This project will focus on manners in portraiture (self and group) and depict different types of human behaviour among family members. During the residency I plan to work on space research, character design and story development.’ WWW.LEAVIDAKOVIC.COM
