Kieleke

An artistic laboratory studying the interplay and combination of verbal art and the art of movement

The core members of the Kieleke workgroup include dance artists Auri Ahola and Valtteri Raekallio, poet Henriikka Tavi and authors Laura Lindstedt and Jaakko Yli-Juonikas. The members of the group first met a year ago at a workshop held at a poetry and music event in Kainuu, Finland. An air of inspiration and trust quickly developed within the group, which added to the in-depth study of verbal art and the art of movement. After the workshop ended, the group wanted to continue their experimental investigative work. And so Kieleke (meaning ”ledge”) came into being – a group, who faithful to its name, strives reach across towards the new.

Kieleke’s work methods include exercises developed by its members as well as workshops held by guests who represent various different art forms. The aim is to increase exposure to both modern dance and experimental literature, to open-mindedly expand into different forms of art and to develop the performance of verbal art more ambitiously than before.

Representatives of other art forms are also invited to the Saari Residence in order to offer a more interdisciplinary perspective. Guests include poet Matti Kangaskoski, musician Tero-Petri Suovanen as well as musician and Doctor of Music Otso Lähdeoja. Both the original members of the group and the guests invited to the Saari Residence are not only true professionals in their own fields of expertise but maintain a keen interest in interdisciplinary expression.

At their artistic laboratory at the Saari Residence, the Kieleke workgroup will study the interplay between verbal art, music and movement, and will open-mindedly experiment with new forms of expression and different artistic confluences.
