Residency artists and researchers Theatre Jalostamo-kollektiivi Theatre group Jalostamo-kollektiivi is a theatre group of young theatre professionals founded in 2012. At the moment, the group is working on Elide Jelinek’s play Rechnitz – Angel of Death, which will premiere in April 2015 at Kiasma Theatre in Helsinki. Contemporary Austrian author and Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek’s play Rechnitz – Angel of Death is an exceptionally compelling playtext. Based on real events in Austria, the work challenges the form of contemporary theatre with an impossible, almost 160 page avalanche of associations. Preparing this play is indeed an acid test for the group, one that is truly radical and requires complete honesty. Rechnitz – Angel of Death is comprised of a series of sets that challenge both a person’s consciousness and their sense of humour. The work highlights the merciless, forbidden and corrupt side of people but also reflects our ability for caring and healing. Through the work, the group inspects their personal relationship to our collective European recent history. Reknits weeds out some difficult questions. How to heal? How to admit to the traumatic and deal with a past that is so thoroughly evil? The Jalostamo collective’s production features actress Anna Lipponen, lighting designer and scenographer Petri Tuhkanen, costume designer Paula Varis and actress Elisa Salo. Guest collaborators include director Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen, translator and performance dramaturg Jukka-Pekka Pajunen, sound designer Janne Hast, actress Tanjalotta Räikkä and dance artist Jarkko Mandelin. The production is co-produced by Jalostamo-kollektiivi and Kiasma Theatre.
