Anu Pennanen & Stéphane Querrec

MFA

Anu Pennanen (Finland) and Stéphane Querrec (France) are collaborating since 2011 as duo PENNANEN & QUERREC. Together, they make films that depict the costs of the diminishing human, social and political conditions in Europe today. Their recent fiction STAANDE! DEBOUT! STANDING! about ex-workers from Vilvoorde in Belgium premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in February 2013 and was screened at Cinema des Galeries Brussels and Lens Politica Film and Media Art Festival Helsinki in 2013. During their stay at the Saari Residence, they will develop and start the writing of a scenario for the making of a fiction ANTEEKSIPYYNTÖ, the last days of a Finnish war veteran suffering from Alzheimer. The residency will consist of 3 phases: 1) a research base work with brain disease specialists in hospital in Turku; 2) interviews with war veterans, and 3) a field research at bunker sites along the Salpa Line.

The film is to be set in eastern Finland at the end of 2014. Finland has been dealing with a lot of war movies. We want to bring this genre with an experimental point of view: the film will shift from dark and large-scale historical spectacular descriptions to a one person story whom memory is bound to disappear.
