The programme aims to strengthen research cooperation between the global South and North.
Kone Foundation is launching a programme to support visits by Latin American, African and Southeast Asian researchers to the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. The aim is to strengthen research cooperation between the global South and North, thus promoting diversity in academic research.
The Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies is an independent institute within the University of Helsinki. It provides a top-class, international and multidisciplinary research environment for scholars in the humanities and social sciences.
“Collaborative research with humanists and social scientists from outside Europe brings new perspectives and enriches the scientific work of everyone concerned,” says Kalle Korhonen, Director of Funding at Kone Foundation.
The programme supports the Kone Foundation’s core values of academic freedom, diversity and sense of community.
The programme has been funded for the period 2026-30, with one-year research periods for each scholar. The funding includes research expenses in addition to salary.
The fellowship programme is invitational. The Collegium solicits proposals for applicants from the faculties of the University of Helsinki as well as from HCAS fellows and alumni. The first call for proposals for the Program will be launched in the Fall of 2025.
