Time out of Present

Application summary

"Time out of Present" is a speculative artistic research into the sounds of nature happening outside of the human immediate auditory resonance. The project aims to make audible the manifold cycles and seasonal alterations in our surroundings through sonification of environmental data and passive acoustic monitoring. Long-term data series of different places are transformed into sound to explore landscape through listening. By filtering and compressing the data, we can experience a certain landscape and its changes in time on a different scale to our usual, immediate perception. By recording samples in different landscapes we can compare them. By re-recording different places after the passing of longer time intervals, we can acoustically hear the effects of human made climate- and environmental changes in the data, sensing immediately the consequences, that we usually cannot directly see or feel. The project aims to bring us closer to nature and built new relations to our environment and its human and non-human inhabitants through sound.
