Project report summary The “Exploring Transformation and Inner Theatrics in Finland” was a joint project of the “Binary Biotheatre” and the “FACT Institute”. At the core of this expedition was the art of vagabonding, a deliberate departure from the familiar, embracing the unknown with open arms. This nomadic approach allowed for encounters with diverse landscapes, people, and experiences, thereby catalysing a deep emotional transformation. The self-discovery journey resembled a theatre of emotions, where introspection and interaction with the world became a script for growth and enlightenment. While not every endeavour was commendable, some actions, like igniting sparks of activism, left a mark. Engaging in provocative acts to provoke thought, such as symbolic "damsels in distress," was a creative expression of a desire for change. An important aspect of this exploration was the project involving the opera "The Gospel According to Luke" in the Lutheran church. This initiative was more than a mere musical endeavour; it aimed to question and discuss religious beliefs, Protestantism, and its ideals within the artistic fabric of Finland. The operatic portrayal served as a medium to communicate profound narratives and philosophical nuances, bridging spirituality and creativity. Established in 2016, "Binary Biotheatre" is a collective of more than 300 individuals globally, an amalgamation of people from distinct walks of life - anybody who is capable and motivated, irrespective of background, from highly acclaimed actors to homeless individuals. Analogous to a mycelium network, we steer clear from commercial motives, embracing an avant-garde theatrical approach and a lifestyle guided by possibility. Our productions grace the stages of Russian theatres and other platforms alike. We actively engage in various festivals, generating recognition such as “Best Experimental Performance” at the NET Festival, nomination for the “Golden Mask” awards, and others. Back to Grants listing
