Kone Foundation funds research and research cooperation through fellowships, as well as grants. The Foundation funds research posts at Finnish universities’ research collegia and in the Fudan network.

1. THE ERIK ALLARDT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME OF THE HELSINKI COLLEGIUM FOR ADVANCED STUDIES

This annually awarded grant offers a residential fellowship at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies for one or two scholars having an affiliation with a university in Sweden. Correspondingly, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond funds scholars with an affiliation with a university in Finland by funding a fellowship at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Studies at the University of Uppsala. This exchange programme for scholars promotes research cooperation between Finland and Sweden in the social and human sciences.

2. THE HELSINKI COLLEGIUM FOR ADVANCED STUDIES’ FELLOWSHIP FOR SCHOLARS HAVING AN AFFILIATION WITH A UNIVERSITY IN THE BALTIC STATES OR RUSSIA

Kone Foundation has funded the programme for visiting scholars from the Baltic states, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia since 2004. Implemented in collaboration with the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies, this fellowship programme operates by inviting scholars to the Collegium.

3. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE FINNISH UNIVERSITIES’ FUDAN NETWORK

Funded by Kone Foundation, this fellowship sends two scholars every year to the Nordic Centre of the Fudan University in Shanghai. All the researchers and academic staff of all the member universities of the Nordic Centre can apply for a grant for a research period of 4–6 months. The aim of the fellowship programme is to promote research on China at Finnish universities. The Finnish member universities of the Nordic Centre include the University of Helsinki, University of Eastern Finland, Hanken School of Economics, University of Lapland, University of Tampere and University of Turku.

4. THE HELSINKI COLLEGIUM FOR ADVANCED STUDIES’ ANNUALLY AWARDED POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN THE ARTS

Funded by Kone Foundation, the Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Arts at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies is unique in Finland. Intended for postdoctoral researchers in the arts, this fellowship aims to develop new forms of cooperation and dialogue between art and science. Applications for the position of the postdoctoral researcher in the arts are invited once a year through a general application procedure. Call for applications is organised once a year.
