Bunch of Scrumps

Application summary

Bunch of Scrumps is a collective of artists making experimental dance and music performance pieces. The group works non-hierarchically, interdisciplinarily and with an underlying sense of curiosity and playfulness. It is a core value of the collective that the work simultaneously holds individual perspective, skills and identities while collapsing them into one being. We work with liveness, with bodies, with structure and with chaos. Our practices and performances seek to heighten, explore and expose our experience of living. The grant will support the ongoing working of Bunch of Scrumps collective. This will involve continuing practice and artistic research, the hosting of workshops and the touring of existing works. We will produce three new performance works: a series of three solos Two on One, a group work Expanded Edition, and a work for children “seedling”. The working period will also involve time for planning, administration and other practical tasks needed for the group to function in the field and with each other. The basis of the group is international and their work will take place mainly in Finland, Australia, Serbia and Slovenia. This internationality is supported by the diverse backgrounds of the individuals in the group and is exciting for the collective as it supports the development of a specific artistic style in which local and the hosted voices can mesh. As artists we feel there is something special and important in collaborations outside of national and European Union borders – we continue insisting upon shared desire and artistic chemistry even when bureaucracy and logistics become more complex.
