Residency artists and researchers Literature Jodi Rose Artist, curator, writer My time at the Saari Residence combines social, aural and cultural research into the mythology of bridges through sound, writing and composing. The aim of the residency project is to develop my writing based around bridge stories and create an accompanying audio work from bridge recordings, personal stories and folklore. The project includes research into Finnish cultural histories and mythology specific to Saari, Mynämäki and Turku areas. This is a new approach to an existing body of work and takes the project further with research into local oral histories, stories and myths around bridges. The material collected at Saari will be edited and intertwined into my existing archive, to be interrelated with my own experiences and collaborative artistic practice with focus on the sound of bridges and their specific local and global cultural contexts. During my research phase I have visited and recorded bridges, stories and myths with the selection of Lauttanpään vanha silta (The old bridge in Lauttanpää) to create a site specific happening Bridges Dances Tango – Midwinter on February 16th, in collaboration with the Saari Residence Community Artist Pia Bartsch.
