We are seeking four community art professionals

This spring, Kone Foundation’s Saari Residence for artists and researchers is organising its second Triennial of Community Art. Held every three years, the event’s theme this year is voice opening. The event devotes special attention to the study of the processes of community art and its various voices.

In May and June, community artists and local communities will carry out six community art projects at different residences in Mynämäki, Lempäälä and Lauttasaari, Helsinki.

We are seeking four community artists to join us in implementing the triennial and to work with the communities during the residency spanning from 13 May to 12 June 2019. The aim is to execute an artistic process and work of art with the community.

One of the artists in residence (Project 1) will work at the Cultural Centre PiiPoo in Lempäälä (no accommodation). The three other artists will work in Mynämäki (Projects 2–4) and their residency will include accommodation at the Saari Residence.

The communities and their wishes are:

Project 1: Lempäälä municipality’s staff – the art form will be determined according to the selected artist

Project 2: Wirmo-Seura society – dance/performance art

Project 3: Workshop for young people – media art, video art, animation Project 4: Mynämäki inhabitants – performance art, literary art, flash mob

The work period begins with a shared initiation period from 13 to 15 May 2019 (3 days) at the Saari Residence in Mynämäki for artists and researchers, maintained by Kone Foundation, (including accommodation), after which the artists will work with their specific communities (for approximately 3 weeks).

The Triennial of Community Art will end with a seminar held from Friday the 7th to Saturday the 8th of June 2019 at Kone Foundation’s Lauttasaari Manor in Helsinki. Each artist and community will prepare a talk, a statement or a presentation about their work processes for the seminar.

The artists selected for the tasks must commit to all the working phases involved. The total compensation to be paid for the month of work is EUR 2,800. The employer is Kone Foundation / Saari Residence.
