Kone Foundation’s annual grant call will be arranged in September – this year’s thematic grant call focuses on the current state of Finnish democracy

Kone Foundation’s mission is to make the world a better place by creating the conditions for free and multi-voiced art and research. The Foundation awards grants for researchers and artists. The annual grant application call will be open from 1 until 15 September, 2022.

We support research in humanities, social sciences and environmental sciences, as well as artistic research. We fund artistic work in all fields of art, and multidisciplinary projects between art and research.

The funding decisions are guided by the central values defined in Kone Foundation’s strategy: academic and artistic freedom and the intrinsic value of research and art, plurality of voices, boldnesslong term, environmental sustainability and crossing national and disciplinary borders.

In addition to the general grant call, we will also organise a thematic grant call. In 2022, the second thematic grant call in the funding programme “Is Democracy Eroding?” will focus on projects that explore the connection between the current state, traditions and practices of Finnish democracy and its blind spots and challenges.
