During the darkest residency period of the year, the artists work with sound, writing, movement, image, and memory. Their explorations include the materiality and performativity of horns, themes of time and loss, childhood and looking, the symbolism of craft traditions, Sufi philosophy, the cultural and ecological layers of food, and the musical possibilities of spaces and materials.

The artists working two months at the Saari Residence are visual artist Toni Brell (Germany/The Netherlands), writer Kaarina Hazard (Finland), dramaturg, director and writer Ami Karvonen (Finland), environmental activist, storyteller and creative researcher Taiye Ojo (Nigeria), composer Mikko Sarvanne (Finland), and the working pairs: sound and performance artist Tuuli Malla (Finland) with visual artist Erja Taskinen (Finland) and choreographer and filmmaker Michael Maurissens (Belgium/Germany) with artist and researcher Basma Eletreby (Egypt).
