Peek inside the Manor – summer event at the Lauttasaari Manor

We are happy and excited to invite you to take a peek inside the Kone Foundation’s new home, the newly-refurbished Lauttasaari Manor (Otavantie 10, Helsinki), on Friday 8 June from 3 pm to 9 pm! The day is full of exciting activities: performances by the Naapurihmasto group of artists, the mask workshop for children, music by Lau Nau and Kalle Salonen, and guided tours of the manor and the art in its garden.

The thorough renovation of the Lauttasaari Manor is finally complete and it’s time to take a look inside the manor. The manor will become the Kone Foundation’s new premises, which we intend to make into the heart of art and science in Helsinki: a place where people meet to discuss and question ideas, bring new ideas to life and challenge them, and feed their souls with art. Above all, the manor will be a place where we share the work, skills and know-how of our grant recipients – researchers, artists and other bold makers.

Our Peek inside the Manor event is all about celebrating the summer and the completion of the renovation, which began in 2016. The Kone Foundation’s move into the manor signifies a new phase in the history of this building, built in 1837, and the oldest building in Lauttasaari, the Red Villa (Punainen huvila), dating back to 1791–93. The renovation of both the manor and the villa has been carried out respecting the original spirit of the buildings, while paying attention to their new purpose. The manor’s old garden will be restored to its former glory and adorned with a wealth of modern art – the largest being a group of works by artist duo Janne Nabb and Maria Teeri, called Lahopuutarha.

PROGRAMME

  • Café Puhuri in the Red Villa is open throughout the event. On view at the café is Kalle Hamm’s and Dzamil Kamanger’s exhibition The Immigrant Garden.
