Residency artists and researchers Music Wanderlust Performance Women in the Woods Wanderlust is a collective of artists that creates performances for public spaces. Women in the Woods is a musico-theatrical collage for two sopranos, flute, violin, viola da gamba and lute, with solo contemporary dancer. The program presents French early music from the 12th -18th centuries, a span of time that produced a great wealth of songs sung from a woman’s perspective. In the 12th and 13th centuries the songs of the trouvères told of women’s inner lives, and what they describe is strikingly resonant with contemporary experiences of love, of lust, of courtship and of betrayal. At the Saari Residence we will create a choreographic language and dramatic narrative to link these songs into a performance tailored specifically to public spaces dedicated to antiquity and visual art.
