Wind, Birds, the Voice Disguised

Application summary

Wind, Birds, the Voice Disguised is an interdisciplinary performance of vocal-sonic experimentation and video installation that transforms censored language into an organic, poetic camouflage. Using AI as a language model, the project encodes erased, forbidden, or politically suppressed speech into a speculative “natural language,” where wind, birdsong, and water currents become vessels for lost voices. This project builds upon encrypted speech strategies- poetic distortions, sonic resistance, and metaphorical escapes—that emerged in response to suppression. At Saari Residence, I will develop (1) encoding suppressed texts into a “natural language” using AI to model linguistic transformations inspired by birdsong and wind patterns; (2) creating a choral dialogue that transcends digital and geographical barriers by calling anonymous contribution of voices, which will be reshaped by AI with the natural soundscapes, forming a composition that reimagines dispersed voices as a collective sonic resistance; (3) a live performance and sound-film installation blending vocal performance, AI synthesis, and field recordings, immersing audiences in an experience where hidden speech emerges through sonic disguise. This project expands upon my ongoing project Free as Birds (2024–ongoing), which reimagines bird migration as a metaphor for human displacement and ecological fragility through the artist's experimental vocal performance of the AI-Bird Songs that are translated from traditional folksongs about birds and migration by Ai language model.
