This has primarily taken place within instrumental and acoustic music, often through quiet, unstable sound worlds shaped by extended techniques and preparations. In recent years, this practice has expanded to include text, most fully in the concert-length intermedial work Panic diaries (2025). During my residency at Saari, I will focus on a question that emerged directly from that work: what does it mean, in my practice, to compose with voice? Not as narration or phonetic texture, but as material that is present, hesitant, and close to speech. I am interested in the unstable space between speaking and singing, and how that condition interacts with the fragile, acoustically distorted sound worlds I already work with. The work will take the form of small studies involving voice, text, and prepared instruments, approached through recording, writing, and experimentation rather than toward a fixed outcome.
