Despite the urgent need to address these impacts, most adaptation efforts have remained local, with limited actions at national and international level. Indeed, policymakers face significant challenges in strengthening cross-border cooperation, navigating the complex interplay of multiple policy domains, and addressing the influence of non-climatic factors. This project seeks to address this “adaptation challenge” in the European Arctic. To do so, it will first assess the coherence of Arctic policies across boundaries and policy domains, to identify concrete policy recommendations for facilitating adaptation. The project will then co-create views and narratives of alternative futures with key stakeholders to improve cross-border cooperation and gain insights on future priorities for actions to advance climate change adaptation in the European Arctic.
