This year the Kone Foundation’s Saari Residence will open the doors to the public on 25 May. We will examine human beings’ relationship with nature from different viewpoints and humans as a part of nature. We will also consider issues relating to ecological sustainability and the technology revolution.

The day will also offer an opportunity to take a look at the works of artists who have worked at the Saari Residence. The works will be displayed in various parts of the manor park and outbuildings. They include, for example, artist and photographer Sanne Kabalt’s video work 1.4 , visual artists Paul Kalemba’s video work Koivun Louhi, Yassine Khaled’s durational performance Monitor Man and Nestori Syrjälä’s sculputures.

Visual artist Hannele Rantala’s work Muistikirja, made from Taivassalo granite, will be presented in the manor’s old stone barn.

Children are welcome to drop by the ecological workshop run by textile artist Annika Tavasti and culture-producer and organic farmer Anu Taivainen.

During the open day, the Nature Conservation Association of Mynämäki-Mietoinen will set up an Eco Team, and everyone will be welcome to join in the discussion and receive more information about the team’s activities. The idea behind the Eco Team is to take small but steady steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle and society.

At the machinery hall, MFA, doctoral candidate Antti Majava gives a lecture on the topic Ecological reconstruction. After the lecture the chair of municipal board, farmer Pekka Myllymäki and farmer Katariina Vapola will comment on the topic. The lecture is in Finnish.

At the end of the day, the Saari Residence’s Community Artist Pia Bartsch and The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK)’s provincial union MTK-Mietoinen will present their community art collaboration project called Jos lehmät puhuisivat (If cows could talk). The discussion is in Finnish.
