In her performative talk at Titanik, Mireia c. Saladrigues reads texts that are part of her ongoing project Martellata_14.09.91 (working title). In the project, different voices describe one of the most dramatic events in the history of iconoclasm: the hammer blow that Piero Cannata gave to the phalanx on the big toe of Michelangelo’s David’s left foot on September 14, 1991. From their own peculiar perspectives, the testimonies refer to aspects such as Cannata’s motives, the relations audiences established to Renaissance art, the processes of restoration, the memory of the matter, and the agency of the artwork.
The discussion is in English, and it’s free of charge.
The event is organised by Saari Residence in collaboration with Titanik.
